can you safely put a power rack in an apartment
"Can you safely put a power rack in an apartment?" This is a very common
question among new and existing building owners alike. Power racks are
equipment used to lift excess floor weight from the upper floors of apartment
buildings to the lower levels, usually for the purpose of renting out
apartments or doing some remodeling. Here are some tips to help you safely
decide if this type of lifting equipment is safe to use in your building.
First
off, you need to realize that there are two main types of power racks:
deadlifts and squats. The difference between these two exercises is the
distance from which you lift the weight (the deadline) and the distance where
you stand while you lift (the squat). Deadlifts can be performed with one hand
or with both hands. Squats, however, can be performed with one leg (wide
stance) or with both legs (wide stance). It doesn't really matter which way you
perform your deadlift or squat as long as you are performing the exercise with
correct form. Power rack owners who have experienced injuries because of
improperly performed deadlifts or squats will tell you that one of these
exercises puts a tremendous amount of stress on the lower back, hip, and lower
leg.
So,
if deadlifts or squats are not part of a total body workout program designed to
raise your metabolism, can you safely put a power rack in an apartment? Probably
not. When performing deadlifts and squats you are using more of your leg
strength, and your back strength is pretty much neutral. So, when you drop the
weight to the apartment floor, you will most likely have to "swing"
or "swing through" the weight in order to bring it all the way down
to the earth.
Another
thing to consider is that when you place heavy weight equipment on the ground,
it can be difficult for smaller apartment dwellers to gain access to. In
addition, most apartments do not feature a large gym area, or a place for a
home gym machine. This can make it difficult or even impossible to place heavy
dumbbells or barbells on the floor. Not to mention, commercial power racks can
be extremely expensive to purchase. It is far easier and less costly to simply
use a traditional free standing gym machine that can be moved around as needed.
Also,
it is important to think about how much weight you will be lifting in your new
location. Lifting hundreds of pounds in a short period of time can be extremely
challenging on your joints, and can strain your muscles. You certainly do not
want to overdo it by putting too much weight on one side of your body, or even
worse, damaging one of your joints. A power rack provides plenty of room,
especially for larger Olympic weight lifts, and will allow you to lift weights
to your desired level of fitness.
Finally,
think about your budget. Commercial power racks can cost up to three thousand
dollars, depending on the type and size of the rack, so it is important to
consider how much you can afford before shopping for one. If you are just
starting out with a personal gym, a cheaper rack might be able to get you
started lifting in your apartment at a low level. However, for serious
weightlifting, or for exercises that require a higher level of skill, it is
usually best to invest in a rack that will provide more room, better quality,
and will help protect you from injury.
